The World's First Wavesailing Competition

The 2026 Quatro Maui Pro is more than an event—it’s the birthplace of wave sailing. The Maui ProAm, first held in Spring 1982 at Ho‘okipa Beach Park, showcased groundbreaking power and aerial moves. Strong spring trade winds, combined with the last north swells of the season, create ideal conditions for the most radical rides and jumps, evolving early airs into the first loops, doubles, and 360s on the wave face. With the right wind and waves, we know the top riders in the world will continue to push the limits beyond our imagination.

The Windsurfing Capital of the World

Nestled in the tropics,  Maui boasts year-round trade winds and geography that amplifies conditions via the Venturi effect between Haleakalā Crater and the West Maui Mountains. Surrounded by the Pacific, it captures raw ocean energy at iconic spots like Kanaha, Spreckelsville, and Ho‘okipa—the natural windsurfing amphitheater. Just up the coast is Pe‘ahi (Jaws), the world’s most powerful wave, breaking at 20+ feet Hawaiian (80-foot faces) a few times yearly. If you could design the perfect windsurfing venue, it would be Maui.

2026 marks the 45th year from the inaugural event and the fourth year of the Unified World Wave Tour—the biggest in windsurfing’s 50+ year history, with 62 events across 25 nations and over 1,500 ranked riders. Counting only the top four results from 1- to 5-star events ensures diversity in conditions and regions, crowning the most deserving World Champions.

The Quatro Maui Pro maintains the spirit of the whole windsurfing community, from Challengers to Professionals and from Youth to Masters.

Before the 2025 MFC Maui ProAm, Maui hadn’t hosted a spring event in 20 years. But the event heritage and Stoke were still alive in many hearts, ready to reignite. In 2026, WWT/Simeon Glasson & Quatro elevated to 5-star status, with three times the competitors from the previous year, the same as during the peak years of windsurfing in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Today, the event rejoins the other five majors alongside the Aloha Classic. As the season opener in Hawaii, it improves the balance for the tour with a second right-hand tack.

In the early decades, this event not only kicked off the Hawaii World Cup season but also brought together the elites for their annual photo shoots after the Japan World Cup, before the European leg of the tour, and before returning for the Aloha Classic in the fall. Past sponsors included Citizen, OIOIMarui, O’Neill, Chiemsee, FromA, Dakine, Hard Rock Cafe, Jeep, and other major brands.

We are thrilled to announce that the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation has endorsed the Quatro Maui Pro. This partnership aligns seamlessly with the Duke’s Foundation and mission to support the development of individuals and events that perpetuate the spirit and legacy of Duke Kahanamoku. Although windsurfing as we know it had not yet been invented during Duke’s lifetime, surfing and sailing—two of his most beloved sports—form the foundational elements of the sport, fostering a deep connection to the ocean and Hawaiian heritage. www.dukefoundation.org.

Keith Teboul: “It’s our honor to support the Maui ProAm, the event that cemented Ho‘okipa on the map and propelled our sport forward. Words can’t express how stoked we are to give back to the sport and community that’s been our family for most of our lives. We wish all competitors the best—be safe and ride with all your heart.”

Francisco Goya: “Events are where our sport comes alive, connecting communities from around the world while inspiring the next generation, continuing the evolution, and keeping us riding at our best. There’s no better feeling than supporting athletes who’ve dedicated their lives to Windsurfing, while spotlighting the youth.”

Judging Key Concepts for Wavesailing

Judges evaluate how committed the rider is to each wave, including the difficulty of the maneuvers attempted and the risk factor involved.

Riders are rewarded for innovation, showcasing cutting-edge maneuvers that push the progression of windsurfing.

Scoring reflects the ability to link multiple high-level moves in one ride, demonstrating technical skill and flow.

A well-rounded performance includes a diverse mix of turns, aerials, and rotations.

Judges assess the rider’s ability to maintain speed, display power in turns, and keep a seamless flow from one move to the next.

The ability to read and utilize the best waves plays a key role, along with how well each maneuver is performed in the given conditions.

Smooth, confident riding with refined technique and control enhances a rider’s overall score, emphasizing mastery over both board and sail.

A key focus is how the rail engages through the entire arc of both bottom and top turns without spinning out. Judges look for precision in carving, with the board maintaining full engagement rather than slipping or skidding

Judges assess how aggressively and vertically the rider hits the lip off the bottom turn. A committed, vertical approach demonstrates technical skill and wave reading, leading to more critical and dynamic maneuvers.

The Judges Panel

Head Judge: Luis Maria “Pick” Escribano—widely regarded as one of the most experienced head judges of all time—will lead the judging panel at this year’s Maui Pro. Having previously served as PWA Vice President and honored with the MVR Award, Buzianis offers exceptional insight into Ho‘okipa’s challenging and dynamic conditions, making him a standout addition to the team.

Michi SchweigerWith a lifetime in the sport, Michi transitioned from a young Austrian World Cup competitor to a seasoned Hawaii waterman. He is renowned for countless Jaws sessions and is a key product developer at Naish Hawaii. His vast experience brings maturity to the judges’ panel, guiding competitors toward the sport’s ongoing evolution with insight and vision.

Event Volunteer Organizer

Welcome to the 2026 Quatro Maui Pro, the Hawaiian event opener of the season. This is the event that started it all, fueled by powerful spring trade winds and the final north swells of the season—conditions that have consistently showcased windsurfing at its absolute best for decades. Just look at the images from last year’s event: gusts exceeding 35 knots, full frontside riding on overhead waves, and endless possibilities blending massive jumps with the fastest riding.

This event is once again poised to be the world’s premier show of our sport, not only for its legendary conditions but also for uniting the entire windsurfing community—we expect over 100 competitors, from elite professionals to youth riders and masters. For all our team members, it is an honor to support and give back to the sport and its community. Windsurfing has been our lifelong passion, and Maui’s North Shore has been our extended home and family for over 40 years.

An event of this magnitude truly takes a village, from the Maui County Council and State Officials to the Windsurfing Community, Riders, Industry Partners, Sponsors, Volunteers, and Passionate Fans. My deepest gratitude goes to everyone who supports, dreams, and follows the Quatro Maui Pro—you are the ones who make it all possible.” Francisco Goya

Feeling the Spring Maui vibe !
Until last year, Maui has not seen a Spring Event since the PWA Event in April 2005, two full decades ago. It is great to have it back on the schedule and as a 5 Star World Cup. If one goes back into the history of wave events at Hookipa, some of the most memorable competitions were held in the Spring during the long-standing O’Neill Invitational, which ran from the early 80’s to the mid-90s. DaKine, Chiemsee, and even corporate sponsors like Jeep & Hard Rock Cafe sponsored events at Hookipa in the Spring. Maui always comes alive with abundant energy as we see the Worlds Best Windsurfers take to the water and challenge the elements. — Kai Katchadourian

That’s what we are about here at Maui Toyota.”

Maui Toyota’s roots date back to 1975 when Damian Farias opened the island’s first Toyota dealership. Fifty years on, grandson Sean leads the still family-owned business as sales manager, upholding the longtime values of local, friendly service and fair prices while embracing modern needs. “We want everyone to be happy; aligning with the community needs makes a better business,” Sean says.
